Who is Greg Hughes?

Greg Hughes is Global’s Director of Strategy, Innovation & Talent Development for Broadcasting & Content.

​

A talented, dedicated radio programmer with experience leading the UK's biggest radio brands and a proven track record in discovering the next generation of broadcasters. 

 

He works directly with the board on the strategy of Global’s brands, innovation within Broadcasting & Content and presenter recruitment & development across Global’s portfolio. In addition, he’s responsible for Global’s regional programming output across the UK. 

 

Prior to this, Greg lead the programming of Capital FM for four years, delivering the station 2.3m listeners in London – its highest audience in 13-years; beating BBC Radio 2, and every commercial competitor.

 

As Executive Producer of the Big Top 40 - the show reached a record audience of 2.7m weekly listeners - the UK’s biggest commercial radio programme, and twice the size of its competitor. Greg’s also experienced in the production of live events, leading Global’s radio coverage of “One Love Manchester” and “Concert For Ukraine” as Executive Producer. 

 

An experienced project manager, he’s consulted on pioneering digital products for split broadcasting, networking, personalised radio and audience measurement as well as acting as launch director for some of the UK’s freshest national and regional stations including Capital XTRA, Capital Dance and Heart 00’s. 

 

Twice included on The Radio Academy’s 30 under 30 list, and an Honorary Life Member of the Student Radio Association; he continues to be a leading figure in shaping the future growth of radio and audio in the UK. 

 

Outside of work, he spends his time designing logos for pipe-dream projects and trying to be half the dad Bandit Wheeler is.
